Tread Skiver

HF offers a cross cutter for the production of e.g. reel treads and the automatic stop and
go skiver, for the production of cut to length products e.g. treads.

Our improved tread skiver, allows a tapered cutting at an adjustable angle of up to 30°.
The advantage of tapered cutting is that it provides a larger bonding surface for splicing
while also improving the uniformity of the tire. The concept has proven so successful
that several of these skivers have been integrated into existing extrusion lines as
replacements for other brands.

The system operates in a way that the extruded tread is centered and transferred
onto the conveyor belt, where three soft pressure rollers ensure continuous,
non-slip running. The rotating circular cutting blade is lowered pneumatically
into operating position above the cutter bar and then raised after cutting.
A fine water spray on each side of the rotating cutter blade keeps the cutting
force low and ensures a clean cut. The machine is designed to accommodate
competitive production requirements in terms of cuts per minute, with the
servo drive providing mechanical positioning reproducible to an accuracy of + 0.5mm.
The skiver PLC control ensures that the tread is cut to the length defined
in the recipe.
The cutting process is monitored via an operating panel with screen.
